Our first dilemma

OK, blog friends, we would like you to vote.  Once a week, Alex goes out of town for work.  While he is on the road, any food he eats will be reimbursed by Insight.  Seems OK - he spends, then gets paid back.  However, good on paper doesn't necessarily equal good for the conscious.  He could just brown bag it and really not buy, or buy and get paid back.

What would you do???

I think he should brown bag it. Unless, of course, he is with me. Then we're getting lunch.
Alex, what about our Finer Things Club lunches?

Kayla, please explain what you mean by "not good on the conscious".

Well, I guess I meant that while it might technically be OK, it's not in agreement with the "spirit" of what we're doing.

And obviously, I can't spell.

hmmm...i don't see a dilemma as the meals on the road are all work-related. if Alex were to brown bag then where would he get the food? unless you grow your own food eating out in this situation is not 'spending.' the meal is part of the work expense -- not yours. BUT to be economical, Alex should choose something healthy and eat at a local eatery that serves locally produced food. good economics there.

I think he should let Insight pay for it. He should eat something healthy since that is also a good resolution. But if he brown bags it, it will come from your own pantry and really can't be reimbursed - right? I mean, are you going to send Insight your Kroger receipt for the bread, bag, coke, etc..it is a perk of his job and nothing more. Don't feel guilty Alex that Kayla doesn't have that!!??

Can you brown bag it, and then still get money (like a per diem)? Not only would you be Not Buying It, but you would be getting paid not to buy it.

That's the way I would go.

Let Insight pay. It's a need on a technicality - Alex needs to eat lunch on the road. If he brings his lunch then there's no refridgeration - this is a hazard to his health. He could eat bacteria/mold-laden food and then you'd need to spend on doctors and meds, not to mention the price of his discomfort. Plus, Insight sucks - let them pay. (I'm bitter because I've been on the phone twice with IT this week and they haven't fixed my cable or internet issues, nor do they seem to care to.)
